About the society

A Brief Overview

The Auckland Philatelic Society is the oldest stamp club in Auckland. The first meetings were held in Shortland Street in 1896, but it was not incorporated until 1922.

Current active membership of the Society is in excess of 130 individuals or couples with over 30 members attending most meetings.

The Auckland Philatelic Society Inc. is a non-profit society that meets three times a month. At the Mt. Albert Senior Citizens' Hall, in Wairere Road, Mt Albert, on the first and third Tuesday each month and at Ferndale House in New North Road on the third Sunday of each month.

The Society is managed by a President, Secretary, Treasurer and five Committee members all of whom are elected by the membership at the Annual General Meeting in June each year.

AFFILIATIONS & EXHIBITIONS

APS is an active member of the New Zealand Philatelic Federation (NZPF) as well as the Association of Northern Philatelic Societies (ANPS).

It maintains and encourages communication with other clubs throughout New Zealand.

As well as running its own annual exhibition (open to members and other clubs throughout the country) it encourages and helps members participate in other National, Local or International Exhibitions.

Novice, intermediate or regular exhibitors all receive maximum support and encouragement.

APS was the winner of the 2023 Ambury Shield and the 2024 New Zealand Interclub Competition.

Circuit books

APS Members can belong to the Society's Circuit. Forty books of stamps from around the world allow members select and purchase items that they might want to add to their collection.

Red Dot auctions

APS holds 5 Red Dot Auctions each year where collections, items and philatelic materials are offered for auction. It's a great place to pick up inexpensive collections or items.

Members receive quarterly newsletters keeping them up to date with recent developments in the philatelic world as well as happenings inside the Club. Coverage of recent presentations, exhibitions, upcoming events and places to explore or use as references on the Internet are just some of the items covered.
